Daytime Nightmares
My dog tries to lick the dream
off of me like it's an evil honey coating, and it lingers as honey would on the skin. I can't shake it off, it has stained me, and it begins to eat away at my flesh-- this dream acid threatens to kill me slowly. It charms with familiar places and people having good times, but it soon turns black and vile. By the time I see what is happening, I can't escape. I can't wake up. My past has caught up with me and is ensuring I pay, endure its torture. © 2014 Nicholas Emeigh |

Notes: This poem was written on Sunday, May 4, 2014. I started it on May 3, after I had a nightmare while I was taking a nap. It was a vivid dream about the past catching up with me. It scared the hell out of me. I had to sit down and write to shake it from my consciousness. So vivid. This is about that feeling.
