Risk
Your lack of a need for the comfort in life,
Your lack of a need for three kids and a wife, Your lack of a need for a white picket fence, My lack of a need for surprise and suspense, My lack of a need for the dangerous life, My lack of a need for the night life run rife, Your lack of a need for a pillow and bed, Your lack of a need for a place for your head, Your lack of a need to go home every night, Your lack of a need for the dull and the trite, Your lack of a need for that mundanity, Your lack of a need for complete honesty, My lack of a need to go straight to the top, My lack of a need for a script and a prop, My lack of a need for a traveling spot Must be why you're famous and I am not. © 2014 Nicholas Emeigh |

Notes: This poem was written on Saturday, April 5, 2014. It's about wanting to be a success, but not fame. I was watching a documentary about Elaine Stritch, and it dawned on me that I could never be famous because I need to be comfortable and secure. Maybe if my life hadn't been laced with trauma I could've been okay with the lack of need for comfort. If you want comfort, you don't get fame. Fame takes risk and living out of a suitcase for a considerable amount of time, something I'm not willing to do. Oh well, maybe I'll be successful without being famous. We'll see.
