Easter '94 -'14
Within the span of twenty years:
With laughter joy, with loss the fears Of all my nightmares coming true, And now this Easter without you. As I walk down Kingwood Lane, I see it's family time again; Cars line both sides of the way, And loved ones feast on Easter day. I hear the laughter from windows All decked out with eggs and bows, And envy their clear lack of loss, And baskets lined with colored floss. Just like the ones you made for me So long ago when "I" was "we", And "me" was "us" under the tree Taking pictures, saying cheese. Then sitting down to dinner. Pain Is plentiful on Kingwood Lane. At least in number eighty-six; Your memory stored in all the bricks. © 2014 Nicholas Emeigh |

Notes: This poem was written on Sunday, April 20, 2014. Today is Easter day, and I was out walking my dog noticing all the cars parked along both sides of the street. I watched people come out of these cars and be received at the door of the house by loving family members. Lots of hugging, lots of joy. I went home to an almost empty house with no company expected, nowhere to go. Sad. I can't help but remember our Easters before my mom (and lots of other family members) passed away. Our house used to be full on holidays. That was the past, though. Memories are the only things I have left. 20 years of memories.
