There are cultures in which
you don't have to be ready until you are really ready, and you're not free to fly until your wings are strong. Who says it's strange to take time to come to fruition, to ripen, to heal, to learn, to need the safety of home until you can fly above the storm clouds? I tried life once without knowing what I was doing, and I was a brilliant fake, filling in gaps and fortifying weakness with wine and pills. In my future I am strong, but for now I need my home, and leaving would be traumatic. So, who is the enforcer (God? Dad?) who'll test my wings? I do not need an enforcer or an instructor, but a protector. Oh, how I need that protector. Everyone needs a strong co-pilot. © 2014 Nicholas Emeigh |

Notes: This poem was written on Friday, March 7, 2014. It's about being ready to live life, and how that journey to fruition takes longer for some than it does for others. Those for whom it takes longer are judged, and I think that's wrong. I was discussing with my therapist about how we're the only society who feels that people need to be up and out at the end of high school. I am a victim of circumstance, and I love my home. Judge all you want.
