Perfume
Why should men have to smell like their fathers?
Come closer, dear one, so I can remember your smell: Lillies of the valley, or a tropical morning scent that means you're up and about, preparing the day. A slight twinge comes from the scent of mint, outside air and cigarettes bringing the memory of you home from work the first time, but now from death. The real depression comes in knowing that, once dead, nothing can be brought back, especially by scent. But isn't it true that you can live through me? If so, haunt me with scent, with touch, with voices that can tell me how and when I'll get through this. © 2013 Nicholas Emeigh |
