I Still Dream of You
You came to me in a dream,
but you were an actress.
Ally Sheedy was playing your role.
As eccentric as she was
in the Breakfast Club,
cooking coffee on the stove,
but still my mom.
Ally and I ate at the old pizza place
and talked about how expensive it was.
Did we just come back from
buying Easter supplies at
the drug store? At home,
you’re she’s making what looks like
a homemade T.V. dinner.
If I’d stayed asleep,
what else would you have done?
And why weren’t you you?
Maybe because I couldn’t handle that.
Even as Ally, the thought of you
wakes me up sad.
If I don’t cry for you,
you’ll disappear.
