Pride It Was And Dignity
Pride it was and dignity
That brought me down and to my knees, And were it simple gratitude, I'd see temptation as a mood That passed before it put down roots. My thinking mind was in cahoots With darker forces in disguise: An angel with the devil's eyes. A war was waged, it burned and raged Until temptation disengaged, And let me be alone with me. I fought the fight, and I am free. Once free, I crumbled up and burned The worst of all the things I learned, And took the good to build a life Balancing on a sharpened knife. © 2013 Nicholas Emeigh |
