Machine Dreams
Generation X, what's next?
Kids who don't give a fuck gonna take care of us when we're old and out of style? All they care about are jeans and scarves and fake white smiles. Sleep all day party kids party wild, hearty, harder than we did. Will they be alive for us? Is this the last chance for the human race? Are we the last ones with brains? I'm scared for foreign diplomacy, wars, drugs, and homeland security. Designer bags carry blow, weed, and money from mommy and daddy. Earn a living being fabulous all the day in and all the day out, no cares, no God, name brands, plastic faces, machine dreams. From the roof top shout: Generation soul without, Generation moral shoot-out, Generation mindless, Generation blinders, Generation focus on me. Please kill me before I get old, cold, homeless with no place in society, no hard won solace 'cause the kids are runnin' the place. © 2014 Nicholas Emeigh |

Notes: This poem was written on Sunday, January 19, 2014. It was inspired by the movie "The Bling Ring" which was written and directed by Sofia Coppola. It deals with the reluctant transferral of power from one generation to the next, and the anxiety it causes the older generation.
